How We Lead

Our leadership is in service to the central values of the firm. We’re committed to a sense of partnership with our clients and colleagues, we strive for clear, direct and responsive communication, and we relentlessly search for effective design solutions that are creative, enduring and insightful.

Robert Lewis Bostwick

President and Director of Design

I dedicate myself to the firm’s mission of providing outstanding design to our clients. In leading the firm on our journey to become the best we can be, I am advocating for design, strengthening our culture of collaboration, and stimulating innovation in all we do. I am drawn to architecture because of its power to change the human experience, and I am compelled by the proposition that superior design comes from a team-centered process with talented, engaged, and determined people.

Matthew D. Bode

Principal and Director of Healthcare Planning

My design passion has evolved to understand the ‘business of healthcare,’ and what that means to the design solutions I create. By listening before solving and treating each person and challenge with the same care, I design facilities that meet functional and operational goals without sacrificing economic and design objectives. This is achieved by understanding the right-size solution, incorporating national experience, applying a tangible methodology, challenging the status quo, and making sure that the facility aligns correctly with the strategy and operations of the organization.

David J. Miano

Principal

Our environment defines and sustains all of us. Design is executed to the fullest potential in a dynamic process generated by genuine association between the owner, designers, and builders. My primary focus is to support the team so that the design evolves intentionally and becomes fully realized as a physical building. This involves respecting the complex influence of the construction process, cost factors, the essentials of building science, and the ultimate pursuit of quality.

Pamela J. Neckar

Principal and Project Coach

I am committed to providing a strategic vision that promotes growth, opportunity, and stability.  By fostering collaboration, we can transform the design and construction industry.  When we are inspired to achieve our individual best we all succeed together, enhancing outcomes through complete, integrated project design and delivery. Teamwork improves service to our clients and allows our staff to thrive in a culture of creativity and reliability.

Our lives are shaped by the built environments we inhabit, and I believe the design of those environments should always have positive, meaningful relevance. I am committed to building collaborative relationships with those who contribute to our built environment, in order to gain the deep understanding that purposeful architecture requires. I am inspired by the partnerships we build, and their power to motivate us to create the beautiful and enduring design solutions that we and our communities deserve.

Michael C. Zambo

Principal

I absolutely love when ‘the light comes’ on during my interaction with a client, user, contractor, or colleague.  That moment when I have communicated well enough for us both to understand the purpose of what we are trying to achieve. Then, we work together to come to the best solution possible. I approach all aspects of my interaction on a project to achieve this feeling of accomplishment.

Senior Associate

You cannot practice architecture effectively alone, and frankly who would want to? It’s through collaboration with designers, engineers, contractors, and most importantly, the users, that we accomplish successful architecture. I develop relationships, foster dialogues, calm nerves, and focus on the root of every design challenge that we will take on together. With every project, I learn through design about the world of a nurse, surgeon, librarian, professor, etc., I put myself in their shoes and recognize the efforts and the pride they take in their professions. For many clients creating architecture is a new and yet sometimes strange experience, I teach them to become honorary Architects, to be engaged and committed in the process, so that they are just as proud of our successes as I am.

Damian A. Henri

Senior Associate

I partner with clients, deriving design solutions from their experiences and resources, and pair those with my expertise. This requires that I communicate with the team in a mode that transcends the boundaries of architecture and moves into the realm of science, medicine, and pedagogy. The spaces my clients and I create play critical roles in education and research – those spaces contribute to the advancement of human knowledge.

Judith M. McGlinchy

Senior Associate

I work hand-in-hand to provide a smooth process throughout the design and building of a project. I help the team capture a client’s vision and goals, and translate them into the best physical reality. I achieve this by listening and asking the right questions. I strive to understand how to help a client work better by closely observing the staff and existing operations. I am a guide through the design and building process, working towards project goals together.

Bryan C. Wahl

Senior Associate

I enjoy putting things together, creating stories, and teaching others throughout the design process to reach their goals. The design process inspires me to create, going beyond the building and shaping the environment. As a good listener, I absorb and analyze information first and then translate it into a design. By leading conversations through which designs are conceptualized, refined, and developed detail is uncovered and clarity is gained to achieve desired outcomes.

Bryan is located in our Cleveland office, send him an email.

Hans P. Walter

Senior Associate

I am dedicated to working closely with our client partners, leading teams and the design process to bring our team’s vision into built form. I approach design as a way of proactively solving challenges put forth by the nature of a place, a program, a clients’ culture, and the budget.  My experience with educational, healthcare, health science and civic projects has greatly influenced the way our designs are presented as a vehicle for decision-making. My goal is to enrich client experience through the process of design and collaboration.

Carter A. Edman

Director of Operations

I approach design with respect and conscientiousness. Care and attention to detail are the sine qua non of good architecture. This means not only each of us giving our best but also the owner, designer, and builder sharing a common vision for success. My responsibility as Director of Operations is to help all of our teams create that success.

Carter is located in our Cleveland office, send him an email.

Christopher D. Kidd

Director of Information Technology

I am responsible for providing technical support and shaping our IT strategies. As a Marine I learned to lead by calmly facing adversity, to never panic, and inspire those around me to bring out the best in them. With one eye on the present and one on the future, I strive to provide technological solutions to complement our commitment to a collaborative design process, and to nurture the passion for design I see on display every day.  I love the idea that I have played a small part in a building that saved a life, opened a mind, or inspired a student.

Chris is located in our Cleveland office, send him an email.
