This satellite campus of BGSU needed a center in which students and faculty could both pursue learning and gather as an academic community. A two-level atrium, designed as a "community square", provides the organization for the meeting rooms, classrooms, seminar rooms and auditorium located around it. This light-filled volume encourages students to linger between classes, meet classmates and faculty, or surf the web in a cyber cafe. At night it becomes an easily identified campus beacon. The Center supports wireless data transmission throughout and is outfitted with the latest distance learning technology. It also forms a missing edge to create a new outdoor campus space.
