Cleveland Digital Public Library

Cleveland Public Library

In cooperation with the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County, the Columbus Metropolitan Library, and the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library, Cleveland Public Library was part of a team awarded a grant that will provide for one of four “Digital Hubs” in the state of Ohio. The grant funded equipment to scan large format and small format items, those that are internal to the library but as importantly to encourage a collective community digitization of documents, for any person or organization to add to the collective memory of a place, all of which will contribute to national and international databases such as the Digital Public Library of America. Cleveland Public Library is leveraging the opportunity to create not simply a functional space but an immersive environment for community benefit. The Digital Hub will be located on the recently vacated 3rd floor west wing of the historic Main Building, where it will share space with the Preservation department, relocated from another facility currently elsewhere in the system. The intent is for both departments to benefit from a more publicly accessible location in coordination with the new Cleveland Digital Public Library.
