TechCentral

Cleveland Public Library

How can a relevant, flexible, technology-driven community space designed to transform library service and the patron experience be created within a highly decorative, awkwardly shaped library basement? This was the challenge given to Bostwick Design Partnership as part of their master planning project for the Cleveland Public Library. TechCentral is the successful result of this design challenge. The goal of TechCentral is to consolidate the library’s technology in an accessible, welcoming environment. Here, patrons can interact with librarians and technology specialists, learn new digital skills, discover emerging tools and software, and use computers for personal, educational, or professional applications. The space is user-friendly and relevant, while at the same time flexible enough to accommodate future technological advances. The former staff-only desk was removed to allow for new service points where staff and patrons can work together.
