Main Classroom Building Renovation
Cleveland State University
The University engaged Bostwick Design Partnership to determine which classrooms presented the most significant opportunities to achieve substantial improvements in classroom capacity, life safety systems, code compliance, building systems, education technology, and aesthetics. Through on-site evaluation of the existing condition of 3rd and 4th floor classrooms, the registrar’s current databases and schedules, and faculty-generated feedback through online surveys, the design team compiled a thorough inventory detailing every classroom’s characteristics and status. Based on this rigorous investigation and cataloguing effort, the design team then developed series of options for phased renovation strategies targeting those spaces with the greatest need for upgrades. This project enhances audiovisual resources in the two main lecture halls in the building and introduces new student lounge space on the third floor. The University is able to grow the roster of available general classrooms while also increasing the average capacity of classrooms on those two floors.
