Presbyterian University Hospital Hybrid OR
University of Pittsburgh Medical Center
In order to bring the Surgery department up to modern standards, the flagship hospital, UPMC Presbyterian, has embarked on a new state-of-the-art hybrid operating room. This room will give the space, equipment, and safety measures required to complete complex interventional procedures. These procedures are vitally important to meet the growing demand for shorter recovery times and reduced infection rates. In addition to the operating room, several other supporting rooms and functions are being included in this suite. This includes a control room, equipment room, graft storage room, and department supporting spaces such as a neurological storage room and a point-of-care laboratory. The complex surgical procedures have also been met with a complex construction site. Needing to reconfigure a story-high structural truss to gain access, managing the construction within a building that is partially slated for demolition, and meeting the needs of a high-demand mechanical system have all required a great deal of detail coordination.
